Do you have a musty smell in your basement? Are there strange discolorations on the walls? Do you suspect mold? Sometimes it can be hard to determine whether or not that is a problem, and you might not want to call in a mold remediator without more information. So what can you do? There is a way to take a sample of suspected mold that is simple and non-invasive. You can accomplish it with two household items that you most likely already have on hand. Scotch tape and a plastic sandwich bag.

All you need to do is to press the scotch tape firmly to the area where you suspect mold is growing and then taping it to the inside of the bag, sealing it and sending it off to a lab for testing. Using this they can tell you if it truly is mold, what type of mold it is and how severe the infestation is. Armed with this information, you will be able to take the appropriate action.
